Gaming Desks: How to Pick the Best Desk for Your Setup in 2026
What size a gaming desk should be, whether a standing desk is worth it, what to check in the desktop and how to organize cables, monitors and mic like a streamer.
The desk is the base of the whole setup: it holds monitors, the mic arm, lights and often the PC. A small or wobbly desk ruins the experience even with high-end gear. Here’s how to choose.
Size: more depth than you think
- Width: 48 in (120 cm) for one monitor; 63 in (160 cm) or more for two monitors, an ultrawide or a Stream Deck and mic on the sides.
- Depth: at least 28 in (70 cm). At 24 in, a 27” monitor sits too close to your eyes.
- Height: arms at a right angle and shoulders relaxed. If the desk is fixed and high, raise your chair and use a footrest.
Fixed or standing
Electric standing desks are now common in creator setups. They let you stand at times and set the exact height. For two monitors and arms, look for a dual motor and a sturdy T or C frame. Browse electric standing desks.
Desktop and frame
- Rigidity: no wobble when typing. Check thickness (1 in / 25 mm or more) and metal legs.
- Surface: many gaming desks use a built-in XXL mouse pad or carbon-look vinyl. It’s cosmetic; what matters is underneath.
- Weight capacity: make sure it holds monitors, arms and PC with margin.
Organize your desk like a streamer
- Monitor and mic arms: free up space and put everything at the right height. The Rode PSA1 is the most common mic arm in the setups we reviewed.
- Cable tray under the desk and power strips fixed to the frame.
- Backlight: an LED strip behind the monitor reduces contrast with the wall (ideas in gaming room LED lights).
- PC on the floor or a stand: keep the desktop for peripherals.
Corner or L-shaped desks
L-shaped desks give lots of usable surface: one side for gaming and another for a laptop, mixer or console. They need room and aren’t always height-adjustable.

FAQ
What size should a gaming desk be?
For one monitor and a full keyboard, about 48 × 24 in (120 × 60 cm). For two monitors or an ultrawide, a boom-arm mic and lights, go for 63 × 28–31 in (160 × 70–80 cm).
Is a standing desk worth it?
If you sit for many hours, yes: switching between standing and sitting helps you move more. Pick a dual-motor frame if you will mount several monitors.
Does a carbon-fiber desktop matter?
The “carbon fiber” finish on many gaming desks is a decorative vinyl over particleboard. What matters is desktop thickness, rigidity and the metal frame, not the surface.
